39000 mi | Car wouldn't start after a 10-minute stop for gas: starter turned and turned, nothing -- check engine light went on. Towed to dealer, where it started. They could find nothing wrong with starter, ignition, software, etc. I concluded it was something in the fuel line that "passed." No charge for diagnostics - under warranty |
41000 mi | Car reluctant to start after a 10 minute stop when 4 gallons of gas were left in the tank, then got "engine running slowly" warning light. Dealer could find nothing wrong. Dealer suggested that there is a design flaw in this Volvo year/model in which spirited rural driving when fuel tank has as much as 1/4 tank left - involving sharp turns -- introduces air into the fuel line, which has to work itself through the engine before it will run properly. I am doubtful. Since the car was in for 40000 mile service, I insisted that they look into the low-gas-tank engine not starting problem more thoroughly. Accordingly, they ran another diagnostic which showed that it was not a design flaw, as it had been suggested to me, but a sensor problem, and they needed to replace the engine speed sensor and 2 crankshaft position sensors. |
