Car made whining noise during startup and idle. Check charging system light displayed on dash. Battery check indicated dead battery. Battery replaced under warranty through advance auto parts. Charging system light still on dash after battery replacement. This is the second alternator in the car. The original was making a whining noise and was replaced with an autozone branded one duralast as a preventive measure. Work was done by pep boys and a denso unit was used this time. Honda uses denso from research. Car runs great now. With more electrical items on newer cars a dying or dead battery will overwork the alternator and can cause it to fail. Going fwd I will check battery health regularly.

The car showed a Electric Power Steering message under the INFO screen. A repair shop read the code as 21-02. The EPS light on the dash did *not* light up. The repair shop mentioned that it the EPS system is unable to figure out how fast the car is going. Normally the steering system will get heavier when on highway, but with this code it will remain light as if in a parking lot. Took to the dealer to investigate. The dealer did a "complicated" reset, which included 1 hour of labor. The problem is now gone, but I'm still a little skeptical about whether or not the problem will come back.

35000 mi

US $680
I took the car into the closest Honda dealer since the battery was totally dead. The battery had been replaced under warranty last Nov. Dealer said it was the starter and I had the starter replaced (AutoZone starter). That cost me over $700 and it wasn't the correct diagnosis. I found out what the problem was on the Acura Forum where others had the same issue. It turned out to be the HFL (Hands-Free Link) unit for my cell phone connection... it would not shut off and would cause a dead battery after several days. I took it out of the car completely since Acura wants over $500 for a new one, just the part. I had argued with the dealer service dept. the previous repair that the problem appeared to be the battery but they said it was the starter. So after returning from a trip, the car wouldn't start again. So the mechanic this time said the problem was the battery. They replaced the battery but wanted me to pay for it, even though back in November I paid for the replacement battery that was still under partial warranty. I won the argument and the 100 mo. warranted battery was replaced at no charge. So a battery and starter have been replaced, but the car wouldn't start again after another 5-day business trip. It sits in my garage. FINAL diagnosis: The culprit turned out to be the Hands-Free Link (HFL) which wasn't turning off. I removed it. Problem solved.
