2016 Audi A4 / S4 Seat Room and Comfort: Pros | ||
Year | Comment | |
2017 | Before the 2009 model year redesign, the Audi A4's back seat was too tight for adults of more than average size, and marginal even for these. With the 2017 the back seat has grown yet again. Not only this, but the cushion is higher off the floor than in previous A4s or in competitors, such that it's now the most comfortable in the class. This said, the rear doors could open more widely, such that I struggled to get a decent photo of the rear seat. Since its 2014 model year redesign the Lexus IS has had a passably roomy rear seat, but it can't match the Audi's for comfort. see full Audi A4 / S4 review |

Pressed to come up with another con, I might offer the front seats. There's nothing bad about them. There's just nothing outstanding about them, either. Those in the sport-trim Lexus provide more lateral support and feel more comfortable to me. (With seats personal impressions are bound to vary, so definitely evaluate them yourself.) see full Audi A4 / S4 review |

Very comfortable Recaro seats, even on long drives. Larger people may not be comfortable so beware. see full Mazda RX-8 review |

Given the RX-8's compact dimensions, you wouldn't expect rear seat space to be a strength. But thanks to clever packaging and a subtly high roofline, there is actually space for real adults in back, provided those up front are short or move their seats up somewhat. With a pair of pickup-like rear-opening "half" rear doors, ingress and egress for rear seat passengers is a snap. For those who want a sports car but have children or need to transport a few friends occassionally, the RX-8 fits the bill nicely. see full Mazda RX-8 review |

Excellent for long trips. Even though I suffer from spinal stenosis, I did a two-day 1800 mile trip with no troubles and felt great on arrival. Most modern cars have comfortable seats, but these also make me feel like I am part of the car. see full Mazda RX-8 review |
