Considered buying a Mercedes E-class or a BMW 5-series, but ended up buying the A6 because it combined all of the sport of the BMW with the luxury of the Mercedes....to this day (150,000 miles later) I don't ever regret that decision!

I live in New England and spend quite a bit of time on the road in the winter time....this car handles unbelievably in the snow! Easily the best I have driven under these conditions!
My 2006 A6 Quattro 3.2L is incredibly comfortable to drive over long distances.
It's hard to imagine such a powerful luxury car can get such great gas mileage. On a recent trip to Montreal I calculated my fuel economy to be somewhere in the 27mpg range....incredible!
My only complaint with this vehicle is the cost to maintain / repair it. Oil change is $100 due to the 7.5 quarts of Synthetic oil. I have had to replace both front wheel bearings on the car at about $320 per side. Also had the steering rack go a year ago which was $3,500 to replace....I guess that when you buy an expensive car you should go into it with your eyes wide open understanding that it will be expensive to maintain.
