Hey There - I don't have a 2009. My mother had a 2007, which was a first gen CTS, and that had problems with the tie rods, and the amplifier for the stereo. The 2009 is a 2nd gen CTS. My father had two of those, a 2011, and a 2013. He totaled the 2011 in an accident, but put about 25,000 miles on it before it got demolished. He never had a repair only service on the car. The 2013 has about 25,000 miles on it, and it never had a repair either just service. The tie rod problem was fixed on hte 2nd gen cars. I checked. I have a 2011 CTS V, so it isn't comparable, but my car has had some problems with the drive shaft and the super charger. None of that applies to your car because mine is a V8. My car has 65,000 miles or so on it.

I rate the 2nd gen CTS as a better than average car in reliability from our experiene, but others may differ, and we never got huge miles on either of the two. That's all I can tell you. Best of luck, and enjoy your car.

Thank you for responding to my concern. I have never questioned the CTS until I started reading the threads!
I normally wouldn't be so concerned but I've been traveling a lot due to my elderly mother's poor health this year. It's a 24 hr drive for me & I definitely do not want to take a higher risk being on the road broke down with a major break down! ( I know this is possible with any vehicle! ) But after reading those threads I was starting to worry more so!
I enjoy driving my CTS it has enough power to make the trip west & I don't have to drive our PU w/the big V8 eng. which isn't as fun to drive! LOL Thanks again for reassuring me with some possitive news!

Remember that this site aggregates problems, and you will generally only hear from people who have had problems. The threads are going to be almost universally complaints. Obviously you are doing a lot mileage, and I know how it is with inferm parents. My dad was sick for years in and out of the hospital making it easy to put off things like maintenance, but be sure to get your maintenance done, and have the mechanic go over the car when you take it in to look for things that might give you trouble. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Keep well.

Maintenance is the key . Don't rely on GM's oil change light. I would change the oil every 6000 miles or so . The oil change light wont come on until like 10000 if you are doing a lot of highway driving, I consider that too long . Follow owners manual for tranny maintenance .
