Turn signal/running lights

Ask the People Who Own One:

2004 - 2006 Cadillac SRX

The left front turn signal/running light on my 2006 SRX, (22,000 miles on the odomter), became intermittant a few weks ago. Checking online I found this to be a common problem, often caused by an overheated bulb socket. I found when I gave the light assembly a sharp whack with my fist it would come back on. That no longer works and I don't have the ability to do the cosiderable work to get at the bulb assembly so I have to assume I have the usual deformed socket. Conversion to an LED bulb would solve the heat problem but I believe there is more to converting to an LED bulb than merely changing the socket and plugging it in. In addition to size and clearance of the bulb considerations, I think the flasher unit depends on recognizing a specific resistance/impeadance from the bulb to flash at the desirable speed. TO GET TO THE POINT has anyone made such a conversion? Better yet, is conversion common enough for a standardized reliable proceedure to be established? And if so, how much does it cost, either DIY or repair shop?
Thanks,
