I have the LS 4X4 1500 model. It doesn't have quite the bells and whistles like the LT (cloth not leather interior, metal finishes rather than wood). It hauls my family of 5 and a 80 lb dog with ease. Can seat up to 9 people (two rear benches plus front bench with console that flips up). Came with Reese type 3 heavy duty hitch. Use it to haul big stuff like dishwashers, water heaters, furniture, etc in rear with no problems.
The ride is pretty good- I would say that it's smooth over the bumps but still has the truck like firmness. It doesn't float like a Cadillac but doesn't jar your teeth like a Fox body Mustang. The tranny shifts smoothly. Engine is quiet including running at highway speeds with AC on. If roll down windows, you get a lot of wind noise. Body is nicely put together and holds up well. Interior fit and finish is okay. Some of the plastics are weak. I think that the finishes are nicer in the LT. I've never had any problems with this truck. It now has 74,000 miles on it. I've put 36,000 miles on it since I bought it. I've traveled on trips 1100 miles each way. It's been driven through Wyoming blizzards, black ice, snow drifts, and 80+ mph wind gusts without losing traction. Nothing stops these babies! It keeps going on down the road even when there are cars and trucks scattered right and left in the highway ditches. I had a 1999 Suburban before and loved it too! The cons in owning a Suburban is the gas mileage. The new Vortec engines shift to 4 cylinder power when idling or coasting and then shifts back to V8 when accelerating. It helps with the mileage a bit but is still a fuel lover. I will continue to buy these without hesitation.
The Suburbans are American made. I'm proud that I can buy an American made car that is reliable and a joy to own.
