Why the 2002 Daewoo Lanos?

Price or payments

I bought the vehicle brand new for $10,000; A used version of this car will be very inexpensive. A great choice for a first car.

Why Not the 2002 Daewoo Lanos?

Ride smoothness

Powertrain performance

It is a 1.6L, 105 HP engine, so it is powerful by any means. Engine struggles in areas where hills exist. When making a left turn from a stop (after the light has changed from green to yellow), the enginer does not have the torque to make the light.

Brand reputation & image

Daewoo is no longer made in the US; therefore, parts are difficult and expensive to acquire.

So wind back the clock to 2002 again -- if you were in the same situation again, but know what you've come to learn about the car, would you make the same purchase?

I'm curious about these, as between the time they arrived in our market, and the time I needed a new car, they had already left. Most people scoff at Daewoo, but some swear they were good cars for the money. I have to wonder if they were more victims of prejudice and their own owner's neglect, than their reputation suggests.
