Why the 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan?

Powertrain performance

The 3.8 V6 is underpowered for the weight of the vehicle. It does OK in hills and mountains with my family of 4 and our luggage for a trip. When loaded down it struggles to get up to highway speed and to maintain speed in hills. The transimission clunks at times and sometimes hard shifts, but it has done that since we bought it to no adverse affects on the powertrain. We've had it for 100,000 miles and have had no issues with powertrain performance or reliability despite the clunking and being underpowered.

Reliability & durability

We are very pleased with the reliability. In over 100,000 miles we have spent $35 in repairs that are not normal "wear and tear" items like belts and bulbs. The interior had held up well to the hard use that kids, their friends and pets will put on a vehicle. We've even hauled feed for livestock and hay in it and you can't tell. The draw back is the vehicle has remote open doors and tailgate. Sometimes, completely at random, one of the doors or the tailgate will open. Other times we have come back to the vehicle to find a window half way down. This doesn't happen often, but enough in the 5 years we've owned it to double check while walking away. The safety on the doors and tailgate to keep them from closing on you has never worked well. You have to provide a good amount of resistance before the motor stops closing the door and starts to open it again.

Past personal experience

When we traded our car in on this van my wife and kids were not very happy. It didn't take them long to change their minds. The dealer installed DVD system has been great. The seating has been comfortable and the seats have maintained there level of comfort. Everybody has enjoyed the relative quite ride and the reclining seats second row bucket seats. The stow and go has been a huge convenience, but watch your fingers when folding the seats into the floor! We drove this thing all over North East TX, a trip to TN, we loaded it down when we moved to NC, more trips to TN and several to Baltimore and Annapolis MD. One things for sure, I would not hesitate to recommend this vehicle to anyone.
