Reviewed: 2009 Dodge Journey

4dr SUV 235-horsepower 3.5L V6 6-speed shiftable automatic FWD

Why the 2009 Dodge Journey?

Exterior styling

Looks better than a minivan, and nothing like a Ford Flex.

Price or payments

Price is thousands less than comparable Toyota, Ford or GM products.

Handling

For a 4000+lb vehicle that is the same size as a short wheelbase Caravan, the Journey handles like a car. Very little roll in the curves, emergency lane changes can be done with confidence.

Quietness

Much quieter than our Caravan, Intrepid and Corolla.

Feature availability

Lots of places to put things, many options included in the SXT price that are high priced extras on other vehicles. i.e. 3 zone climate control included with flex seating package for less than $1200!

Why Not the 2009 Dodge Journey?

Powertrain performance

While the transmission is usually very smooth, we are experiencing an increasing number of rough shifts and hunting in stop and go traffic. 3.5 V6 has little oomph below 400rpm.

Reliability & durability

With 18000 kms on it the front end is starting to knock when I back out of the driveway, just like the 1999 Caravan with 185000 kms on it, tranny issues noted above, cargo area carpeting damages easily.

Front seat support & comfort

On long hauls over 3 hours you are sore when you get out.
