Wide bench seat with no humps. Middle passenger has good leg room where many other vehicles have a large hump to straddle. see full Ford Escape review

2012 4dr SUV 171-horsepower 2.5L I4

It's a tad bit tight in the drivers seat. I have to postion the seat just right to avoid hitting my right knee on the center console, and I frequently hit the light switch when getting out. I'm only 5'9", so not that large of a person. see full Ford Escape review

What Our Members Are Saying about the Powertrain of the 2012 Ford Escape

2012 Ford Escape Powertrain: Pros
YearBody/PowertrainComment
2013 4dr SUV turbocharged 240hp 2.0L I4
6-speed shiftable automatic FWD
My wife felt that it was time to replace my Jeep Wrangler with something more "practical", so I got a (used 2013) Ford Escape Titanium. Mission Accomplished? Drivetrain: My Ford has the 2.0 Liter Turbo. At low RPMs it pulls very well for a 4 cylinder. When you crush the (over sensitive) throttle it makes the front tires chirp and squirm while making wonderful noises. Perfect for humiliating kids with slammed Integras, if you are into that. Definitely get the 2 liter unless something is more important to you than fun. The 6 speed auto-shifter is quick and clever, has a good pushbutton shift mode, and so well integrated that I'm almost fine with not having a stick. Handling: This car drives like a Focus' older, slightly softer brother. This puts it well ahead of most compact cars. Steering is precise, cornering is flat, brakes are fine. The handling limits are clearly further out than I am willing to push. Summary: Can you fetch groceries? Take 2 people and a month's worth of camping stuff across the country? Get 30 MPG highway with good behavior? Sure, it does that stuff. But it does everything with such.. infectious enthusiasm that the errands seem less important than the drive. This car is a Hoot! see full Ford Escape review
2012 4dr SUV 240-horsepower 3.0L V6
6-speed automatic AWD
Very smooth, quiet, excellent pick-up; tight handling, shifts effortlessly. see full Ford Escape review
2012 Ford Escape Powertrain: Cons
YearBody/PowertrainComment
2013 4dr SUV turbocharged 240hp 2.0L I4
6-speed shiftable automatic FWD
The 2.0L turbo motor only develops power above 3000 rpm and is gutless at lower rpms. Using the manual shift feature on the 6 speed automatics helps a bit, but this car would be much better with a manual transmission to keep the engine in its power range. Most drivers will miss the previous model's 3 Litre engine, and the turbo 2.0 delivers gas mileage about the same as the 3 litre motor. We averaged a computer indicated 29.5 mpg for 3 weeks of highway driving. see full Ford Escape review
2012 4dr SUV 171-horsepower 2.5L I4
6-speed automatic FWD
The little 2.5L four-cylinder offers decent power for its size, but idles very coarsely with the A/C on and in gear. Ford has issued a service notice for this problem, but it basically comes down to, "we know there are complaints, but resolving the issue isn't a priority for us." see full Ford Escape review

What Our Members Are Saying about the Tires of the 2012 Ford Escape

2012 Ford Escape Tires: Cons
YearBody/PowertrainComment
2013 4dr SUV turbocharged 240hp 2.0L I4
6-speed shiftable automatic FWD
Tires are now low profile 55 series on 17 inch rims, suitable for dry smooth pavement, nothing else. Very harsh and slippery on gravel roads. see full Ford Escape review
