Any issues towing an RV with Explorer (or Sport Trac) 4.0 V6, AT ?

Ask the People Who Own One:

2001 - 2005 Ford Explorer Sport Trac
bempey

I just bought a low-mileage (301,000 kms -- only 180,000 miles or so :) Sport Trac XLT Premium. 4.0 V6, 4WD, Automatic trans. I'll be towing a camper on a utility trailer for only 1500 or so miles, east from the Pacific.
Its a small, 1000+ pound camperette on a 450 pound trailer. Easy Peasy!
The camper will go on my VW 1-ton crew cab.
then I'll be buying an RV Trailer, which will be heavier (GVRW in the 4k to 5k pound range) to tow behind the Sport Trac.

Are there any things to be concerned about? What to watch for?
Any signs of impending doom (in the A/T, for example) ???

What should I know about these vehicles (when towing)? Can anyone recommend a preferred trailer-brake-controller? Thanks in advance!
