I am thinking of getting a Ford Fiesta as my next vehicle and just wondering if there are major problems.

We have a 2011 SES with manual transmission. It is primarily my wife's car, but I drive it as well. We have had absolutely no problems with it. We live in the mountains and it is bit under powered on 6+% climbs, but that is not unusual for any car in this class. We get approximately 30-31 mpg in the city and 35-38 mpg on the highway. Trunk isn't spacious but car handles Costco runs. We are not tall so inside is just fine and lots of room for grandkids in back seat.

I have a manual 2014 SE and it's just had minor issues. Sync can be buggy and the fuel filler neck needed to be replaced under warranty (I'm told this issue is rare). Otherwise it has been problem-free. It averages 32-34 miles per gallon (US), and I get 36-38 on the highway. The automatic transmissions are known to be problematic, so I wouldn't recommend it without the manual.

I have the 2013 with 63000 miles. I bought it new. It's the automatic and I can confirm it has real issues. It jitters and shakes sometimes on acceleration or deceleration. I get nervous pulling into traffic when it does it because it struggles to accelerate and cars are coming up on me. Ford does not have a permanent fix and there has not been a recall. This problem carries over to the Focus too. Ford just basically tells us to deal with it. There is a class action lawsuit forming because of this problem. Stay away from the automatic if you go for this car.
I've about decided on a Jetta TDI next. I daily drive ~80miles per day on the interstate.

Have a 2014 Fiesta, and it has had ZERO issues. Mine is a turbo with a manual transmission, great mileage, and a nice zippy car. Not the greatest in interior comforts, but for the price a great deal!~

Great car!! Driven very hard. Daily driver.Excellent fuel milage Has been very reliable, in extreme cold and extreme heat.Handles very well 80,000 kms.1 battery,1 front brake job.
Unfortunatly direct shift gearbox or DSG( automatic) is very jerky and jumpy.Like people have said Ford does not have fix. Symptoms start after 20 to 30,000kms.
Dealer has had mine out for two day repair 3 years ago. $5 gaskets inside transmission get wet creating problem.Software updates work for a little while.
Improvements are there( car does not hesitate from standing stop, but will still jerk forward after highway run ,in stop and go traffic).I usually put car in low gear and hold it to about 4000 rpm for couple of stop lights and shifting improves.
These would be fantastic cars, but the transmission should not been put out to market
