Ford Ranger Real Gas Mileage: Cons
YearBody/PowertrainComment
2011 4dr Extended Cab 6ft bed 207-horsepower 4.0L V6
5-speed manual RWD
Could be better. Right now getting a nudge over 20mpg each tank, which is somewhat expected but could still be better. see full Ford Ranger review
2009 4dr Extended Cab 6ft bed 207-horsepower 4.0L V6
5-speed automatic 4WD, part-time w/low range
2009 4.0L 4x4 with Auto is just HORRIBLE for fuel mileage - all these trucks with the 4.0L are! Although the Ford Ranger has an excellent and proven track record for reliability and the new vehicle pricing was very competitive, I could have purchased a larger more expensive truck with a V8 and more features and by this time I'm sure that I could have broken even if you consider how much the Ranger has cost me in additional fuel costs. Although I'm confident that this little Ranger will last for years, I'm afraid that I will be trading it earlier than I would have wanted to find something that is not such a gas guzzler. see full Ford Ranger review
2008 4dr Extended Cab 6ft bed 207-horsepower 4.0L V6
5-speed automatic 4WD, part-time w/low range
Ford needs to wake up to the cost of gas - All you can get now in a 4x4 is the 4.0L engine - That motor eats gas. Ford I want the option of a 3.0 L and even a 2.3L 4x4 see full Ford Ranger review
2006 4dr Extended Cab 6ft bed 207-horsepower 4.0L V6
5-speed manual 4WD, part-time w/low range
With todays gas prices I would have liked to have the option of a smaller motor. The 4.0L can really drink fuel see full Ford Ranger review
2004 2dr Extended Cab 6ft bed 207-horsepower 4.0L V6
5-speed automatic 4WD, part-time w/low range
I average anywhere between 16 and 19 mpg, I believe that Ford could achieve alot better fuel economy out of a truck the size of a Ranger that doesnt even have a V8 see full Ford Ranger review
2003 2dr Extended Cab 6ft bed 207-horsepower 4.0L V6
5-speed manual 4WD, part-time w/low range
I averaged 15-16mpg in mixed driving during the summer. About 11-12mpg in the winter. On long trips I could get 18-20mpg, but the best I ever got out of it was 23mpg going down the I80 into California. see full Ford Ranger review
2002 4dr Extended Cab 6ft bed 207-horsepower 4.0L V6
5-speed manual 4WD, part-time w/low range
I would always like to get better gas mileage but considering mine is 4WD and has the larger engine, the gas mileage is not that bad. I would not want to give up power to get better gas mileage. I do feel Ford could improve on fuel economy. see full Ford Ranger review
2001 2dr Regular Cab 6ft bed 119-horsepower 2.5L I4
5-speed manual RWD
V-6 fuel economy in a 4 cyl. No matter what I do it gets 20 mpg. should be better see full Ford Ranger review
