What Our Members Are Saying about the Powertrain of the 2006 Ford Ranger

2006 Ford Ranger Powertrain: Pros
YearBody/PowertrainComment
2007 2dr Extended Cab 6ft bed 207-horsepower 4.0L V6
5-speed manual 4WD, part-time w/low range
The 4.0L is a peppy motor. Granted it is not the most powerful but it is respectable. see full Ford Ranger review
2006 4dr Extended Cab 6ft bed 207-horsepower 4.0L V6
5-speed manual 4WD, part-time w/low range
My latest Ranger has a 4.0 L 5 speed and really hauls a$$. I would have rather had another 3.0 L 4x4 for the great gas mileage - but this 4.0 liter is very inpressive on big hills and pulling a trailer. The tranny is silky smooth. Very nice manual box. see full Ford Ranger review
2006 Ford Ranger Powertrain: Cons
YearBody/PowertrainComment
2007 2dr Extended Cab 6ft bed 148-horsepower 3.0L V6
5-speed automatic RWD
I wish Ford had offered the DOHC 3.0L Duratec engine (200HP) in the Ranger instead of the 4.0 SOHC engine. The 3.0L Vulcan engine really needs about 50 more HP. see full Ford Ranger review
2005 4dr Extended Cab 6ft bed 207-horsepower 4.0L V6
5-speed automatic 4WD, part-time w/low range
Maximum engine for this year was a 207 HP V6 see full Ford Ranger review
