Reviewed: 2008 Honda Fit

4dr Hatch 109-horsepower 1.5L I4 5-speed manual FWD

Why the 2008 Honda Fit?

Fuel economy

33 mpg on first tank. Expect it to go up as engine break-in period passes

Exterior styling

excellent lines and headlight assembly give it an unmistakable and definite character

Cargo capacity

Magic Seats let me toss a bike in with no problem. Rear seats fold flat to floor, which let me move tables (and loveseats according to some) with no fuss.

Safety & braking

Front, side and side curtain airbags standard on all trims, unlike some of its competitors where you pay extra. Excellent crash test ratings. One dislike though: rear brakes are drum instead of disc.

Reliability & durability

Lowest "true cost to own" hatchback according to Edmunds.com. Hondas are supposed to be excellent in this category.
