Flushing the transmission at such high mileage can damage it. I would not trust the dealer. They are probably only trying to get your money. Do what your trusty independent mechanic says. The transmission may not have much more life in it, and a flush may damage it, so I'd say don't mess with it.

A drain and fill might be a good idea. This is what I have done with my Ford. Absolutely do not have it flushed, where fluid is circulated through the transmission under pressure. Flushing can pick up bits of metal that weren't causing problems and relocate them to places that will cause problems.

The dealer is giving you decent advice, drain and replace. They did not say flush, which I would not recommend on a transmission of that age and mileage which never had one. What Lectrofuel and Michael said is correct.

However a drain and replace is fine and won't cause those problems. It is better than doing nothing, but being a Honda the transmission it has had a good life - that might add some life to it.
