2012 R-Spec - Do I need a warranty?

Ask the People Who Own One:

2009 - 2014 Hyundai Genesis
tstack

I just purchased a 2012 R-Spec from a private seller. Just under 40,000 miles, manufactured in Dec. 2011 (is that one of the "early" models prone to oil consumption?).

The Smart Cruise Control malfunction light came on already. I'm hoping that will be covered by the remaining factory warranty.

I can get a service contract sold by USAA (provided by Assurant) for about $2,000. I've gone through the contract several times and it seems to be pretty solid?good enough that if they denied a claim I could fight it and win.

Anybody have thoughts on the merits of buying an extended warranty for this vehicle? The folks at the owners' forums all seem to think it's a requirement.

Thanks.
