Reviewed: 2003 Jaguar S-Type

4dr Sedan 240-horsepower 3.0L V6 6-speed automatic RWD

Why the 2003 Jaguar S-Type?

Exterior styling

Classic Jaguar Styling reminiscent of the original 1967 Jaguar S-type. The S-type embodies the curvy, sensual Jaguar look

Interior styling

I like the revised dash on the 2003 and up S-type. It looks a lot more like the older Jags than the 2002 models.

Powertrain performance

Smooth, quiet power delivery with ample acceleration and, surprisingly fuel economy.

Handling

The wheels stay firmly planted to the ground and the RWD set up helps the steering responsiveness.

Ride smoothness

The Jaguar S-type is the smoothest riding vehicle I have ever driven. Absorbs all bumps without drama.

Why Not the 2003 Jaguar S-Type?

Reliability & durability

Jaguar has a spotty reputation for reliablility, although I have heard that the 2003+ years are better.

Depreciation

I like the fact that the S-type depreciated enough for me to afford it! It may not hold its value long term, though.

Love your review Henry. I own a 2005 STR and all you said is spot on. The S-type is very smooth, solid, sensual, quiet, and with fuel efficiency. I don't care about depriciation, because it was so inexpensive to buy for the value, it hardly matters unless you want to flip it after 2 yrs. I plan to keep mine indefinitely!

Thanks for your reply. Was just going through this site again after a long hiatus. I heard that he was getting ready to shut it down. Do you still have your Jag? I got rid of mine, but I wish I would have kept it.

I have a 2003 Lexus ES300 which is just starting to have engine trouble. I like the car okay. It is almost as nice as the Jag, but the Jaguar had crisper handling and much sharper looks. I certainly miss it.
