TrueDelta Reviews the Seat Room and Comfort of the 2014 Mazda CX-5

2014 Mazda CX-5 Seat Room and Comfort: Pros
YearComment
2013 There's plenty of legroom in the rear seat, but the same can be said of most compact crossovers. Based on the official specs the Mazda has 4.4 inches more total legroom than a VW Tiguan, but to me the Tiguan's rear seat seemed slightly roomier and more comfortable owing to a higher position. The rear seat reclines in the VW and some other compact crossovers, but not in the Mazda. The Escape's rear seat is considerably less spacious than the others. Adults will fit, but with less knee room to spare. see full Mazda CX-5 review
2014 Mazda CX-5 Seat Room and Comfort: Cons
YearComment
2013 There's no clear winner in rear seat room and comfort, either. The Mazda's rear seat is mounted a little lower than the Toyota's, and when sitting in it my knees are considerably closer (if still not close) to the front seat backs. Also, the Toyota's rear seat reclines, while the Mazda's does not. Neither car has air vents in the rear passenger compartment, but the RAV4 has a large vent high on the instrument panel apparently intended to push cool air into the rear seat via the ceiling. To counter these RAV4 advantages, the CX-5 offers about five inches more rear hip room. So three passengers will fit more comfortably. see full Mazda CX-5 review

2015 4dr SUV 184-horsepower 2.5L I4

Soon after I bought the Mazda, I did an 8 hour trip in it. I found the seat comfort to be most satisfactory. I had no trouble finding a comfortable driving position using the power seat, and, the lumbar support. see full Mazda CX-5 review

2014 4dr SUV 184-horsepower 2.5L I4
6-speed shiftable automatic FWD
While recently shopping for a new car for the first time in over 10 years, I found that driver's seats are now made with high sides. For me, a 5'1" female driver, this makes it a bit awkward getting in and out. Combined with the higher ground clearance of a compact SUV, it's not the ideal setup. The Mazda CX-5 is not as bad as others, but it's still an issue. see full Mazda CX-5 review
2013 4dr SUV 155-horsepower 2.0L I4

Could use some more support on the front of the seats, the back seems to fully support me. see full Mazda CX-5 review
2013 4dr SUV 155-horsepower 2.0L I4

The rear seat is roomy enough for an average or above average adult, but the seats themselves could be better-- perhaps more sculpted and padded. Not nearly as comfortable as the front seats after an hour or two. I'm sure, however, that this is a common complaint on other smaller SUVs too, having tried them out at dealers, so it's not unique to Mazda. Again, a modest complaint since I'm in the driver's seat most of the time! (which is VERY comfortable, I might add, even for long drives!) see full Mazda CX-5 review

TrueDelta Reviews the Seat Room and Comfort of the 2014 Buick Verano

2014 Buick Verano Seat Room and Comfort: Pros
YearComment
2013 The Buick Verano's impression of substance and solidity extends to its seats. The front buckets are larger and more thickly padded than those in the typical compact sedan, yet have a firm, properly supportive underlying structure. They look and feel "premium." The Acura ILX's front seats, with more prominent side bolsters, provide better lateral support in hard turns, but don't feel as solid or as luxurious. see full Buick Verano review
2014 Buick Verano Seat Room and Comfort: Cons
YearComment
While the Buick Verano's exterior is large for a compact sedan, its rear seat is among the tightest. The ILX is a bit tighter still. In it I can just fit behind my 5-9 self. But anyone who requires an adult-friendly rear seat will likely reject both cars (along with the new Cadillac ATS). The Verano's 14.5 cubic foot trunk--two cubes over the ILX's--is more competitive, and more in line with Buick's traditional strengths. see full Buick Verano review

I'm 6'3. With the seat all the way back I can't reach the pedals. I really don't need to say more. see full Buick Verano review

I am 6'1", broad shouldered, overweight, and considered quite a big guy, but I have no trouble fitting into the car. Even if you are a couple of inches higher than me, you should be okay. Be advised I chose a car without a sunroof. The sunroof may cut into that headroom. see full Buick Verano review

The seat cushioning is about the best in the business. The foam density Buick used is unlike any I have experienced. see full Buick Verano review

2014 4dr Sedan 180-horsepower 2.4L I4

If you're tall, prepare for cramping if you have anyone needing to sit behind you. I cannot explain the lack of room here. With my seat in my long range riding position (as far back as I can go with my feet still reaching the pedals) there is 1 and a half inches between the edge of the back seat and the kneeboard on the back of the drivers seat. There is no human capable of putting their leg behind that. see full Buick Verano review

No rear seat venting except the floor makes it a bit stuffy for the rear seat passengers. The rear seating area is tight to get into but once seated provide enough space. see full Buick Verano review

My right knee(with shorts on) hits the hard plastic to discomfort. I thought about putting some padding there. Same with the lack of padding inside the map pocket on the door to keep contents from rattleing. see full Buick Verano review
