2016 - 2024 Mazda CX-5

Considering a cx5 as a commuter and an occasional stuff hauler. AWD would be a plus for the occasional snow in northwest indiana. Is an awd cx5 a decent choice for a 20,000 miles per year commuter?

My wife has 62k on her 2014 CX-5. Put Blizzak snow tires on this year. Overall this vehicle has been problem free. I personally enjoy driving the CX-5 with Grand touring Pkg. Responsive and fun to drive. She hauls horse tack and other gear without a problem. Only complaint is software for bluetooth.

Yes - capable vehicle and is fun to drive - regularly puts a smile on my face. I have a 2015 GT AWD and live in Ontario, Canada - we get snow. Handles well in snow - but seriously recommend winter tires. I notice a distinct difference between all season and winters. With winter tires it is a very competent vehicle in the snow.

My wife uses our CX-5 as her daily commuter vehicle. She only puts on 25-30 miles a day in mostly stop and go situations. It is comfortable, reasonably responsive and economical returning 24-26 MPG under this type of driving. Once a year we put the seats down and take off for 2 to 3 weeks on vacation putting it through all types of situations. Last year drove from Massachusetts to N. Carolina & Tennessee and back home, 3,400 altogether. Averaged 29 MPG's on that trip, AWD put to use climbing a rutted dirt road to 4,000 ft elevation. It never missed a beat. That wetted our appetite for this year's trip, a 7,000 mile round trip from Massachusetts to Arizona. Would I rather be doing it in a Q5? Sure, but then I wouldn't have the money for our vacations! My sole complaint about the vehicle is how it sounds when cold started. The first couple of minutes the engine sounds like it's going to start spitting out parts but runs very smooth once brought up to temp.

We have a 2014 Grand Touring AWD. I can't say how it does in the snow, we're in Florida, but the CX-5 is a great car for a commuter and occasional stuff hauler. That's exactly the way we use ours. It's my wife's daily commuter. She drives 120 mile round trip almost daily (she occasionally car pools). It's averaged a bit over 25 MPG since we bought it with almost 28 on the highway. The car has over 52,000 trouble free miles on it so far. Regular maintenance and a set of tires at 40,000 miles is all it has needed. It handles like a sports car (I drove a Miata for 6 years) and rides nicely. It hauls all kinds of stuff. The most interesting thing I had in it was three 4'x8' sheets of plywood. I had to have them cut lengthwise to get them up into the attic; they went all the way to the windshield of the CX-5, but they fit with all but the driver's seat folded down. The only thing I can really fault the car for is the infotainment (maybe it's better now). We purposely ordered the car without the navigation since it wasn't very good. The Bluetooth has worked pretty well, but had a glitch about a year ago. It's worked fine since. The Bose sound system performs nicely and the Grand Touring trim with the light grey leather seats look very nice and are holding up well.

Thank you to everyone. The CX-5 sounds like a great vehicle and will definitely be on my short list.
