Reviewed: 2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata

2dr Convertible 170-horsepower 2.0L I4 6-speed manual RWD

Why the 2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata?

Handling

Handles like much more expensive roadsters. The car just dances.

Powertrain performance

Surprisingly strong. The 6-speed is almost as good as the Honda S2000. The car itself feels almost the same as an S2000 all the way up to 7/10ths.

Fuel economy

The MX-5 always seemed to be great on gas, no matter how hard you flogged it, top up or top down.

Exterior styling

Classic roadster lines.

Reliability & durability

Car had a major issue with its engine computer, fixed under warrantee. Other than that, no real issues.

Why Not the 2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata?

Front seat room

Taller drivers will fit, but you have to get the seat JUST right.

Audio & nav systems

Stock stereo was a joke. Underpowered. Had to upgrade speakers and ad an amp just to hear radio with the top down. "SAT" and "MEDIA" buttons do nothing. No aux jack for MP3 players. Ipod hook up was an overpriced dealer add-on.

Ride smoothness

Hey. Its a sports car... Not a Rolls.
