Reviewed: 2005 Mercury Mariner

4dr SUV 153-horsepower 2.3L I4 4-speed automatic AWD

Why the 2005 Mercury Mariner?

Exterior styling

The exterior is very SUV but has many nice touches with the silver/chrome waterfall grill and tail-lights in brushed/chrome silver. Many small touches. It is the best looking of the Mariner/Escape/Tribute family. Much more upscale looking.

Interior styling

The interior is well appointed and very luxury looking.

Fuel economy

For an SUV with a 4cyl and 4wd I get avg of 22 MPG mixed city and highway. I usually get 23-26 on freeway only. This is good.

Brand reputation & image

I feel it has a solid brand reputation and image as a more premium version of ford.

Cargo capacity

Perfect for a single guy, a fisherman or a family of 4 (adult size) or 5 (3 kids) etc.

Why Not the 2005 Mercury Mariner?

Quietness

It can be loud with the factory continental tires on the freeway

Discounts & incentives

They do not seem to be enough during the clearance period.

Front seat support & comfort

For long drives even with leather it can get uncomfortable. A little more support and padding would be good in the seat.
