Reviewed: 2002 Nissan Xterra

4dr SUV 170-horsepower 3.3L V6 5-speed manual 4WD, part-time w/low range

Why the 2002 Nissan Xterra?

Price or payments

Excellent value for the features. Hard to find a real body on frame truck with a durable drivetrain for this money.

Exterior styling

The hump from the stadium seating combined with the roof rack. Aggressive fender flares. The side profile is just killer. I saw a prototype at the 1998 San Diego Auto Show and just had to have one!

Powertrain performance

Solid V6 and 4x4 drive train. Real transfer case. The five speed tranny combined with the supercharger, while not a sports car, makes it fun to drive.

Brand reputation & image

Nissan has a solid reputation for a reason - they make reliable and affordable cars. Generally nothing to get overly excited about, but a good performer. Except on the Xterra I love that profile.

Feature availability

Pretty good mix of features for a truck in this price range. Lots of little details such as compass, decent radio, cruise control, tilt wheel, steering wheel controls, good cup holders :)
