Traded 2 VW TDIs on one Porsche Cayenne diesel. The wife and I downsized our home and wanted to downsize our garage as well. Had been really happy with a pair of VW TDIs - a 4 door Gold and a Jetta Sportwagen and seriously considered a VW Tuareg. The VW did not offer 2 options we really wanted - air conditioned seats and lane change assist. Got 35mpg on the initial trip home from the dealership where purchased - a trip of 100+ miles via Interstate and 2 lane state and county highways. Averaging around 32 to 33 mpg in town. I hope to get 38 on the highway when broken in. The VWs took about 12,000 miles each before best mileage. The Cayenne is just about to 2,500 miles.
The air conditioned seats are superb. Left a play where the car had been sitting in the sun and an outdoor temperature of 99 degrees. In 6 blocks, the a/c was blasting and the seats were blowing cool air. The lane change assist works well too since in our neck of the woods people are always darting in and out of your blind spot. The Bose Surround Sound System is superb too. Used to own a Boxster. Glad we returned to Porsche.
