Reviewed: 2005 Saab 9-2X

4dr Wagon turbocharged 227hp 2.0L H4 5-speed manual AWD

Why the 2005 Saab 9-2X?

Discounts & incentives

Very large discounts and incentives given at time of purchase

Powertrain performance

Good power from 4-cylinder turbo combined with all wheel drive (not many options on the market with these characteristics)

Reliability & durability

Built by Subaru, on the existing WRX assembly line, with a good reputation for reliability and durability

Exterior styling

Styling is improved from the similar WRX, and looks less boy-racerish

Why Not the 2005 Saab 9-2X?

Interior styling

Cheap and lousy materials, mediocre seats

Quietness

More road noise than a true premium compact

Materials & workmanship

Plastics and seat materials very cheap feeling, but workmanship OK

Brand reputation & image

Saab reputation is for over-priced and wanna-be premium cars. 9-2x makes that even worse by trying to make an economy car have some aura of exclusivity.

Fuel economy

Fuel economy is low for the size motor (2.0 liter) and car. Would expect around 30mpg but generally only get around 25-26.
