camshaft leak& front cv joints need replaced

Ask the People Who Own One:

2014 - 2018 Subaru Forester
vmkozel

our daughter has our 2015 Subaru Forester and the dealer near her advises her that the following items are in need of repair and replacement. Camshaft seal at a cost of $3,200.00 and front CV joints at a cost of $703 each. The car has less than 90,000 miles.
has anyone else experienced any of these issues? Has Subaru done anything for tiy to help out in the cost?
Thanks in advance for any replies.

Take it to an independent mechanic with good reviews and you may find that your Subaru doesn't need that much work done. It will usually almost certainly be cheaper at the mechanic than the dealer.

As you are finding out Subaru's are expensive to maintain. Your best bet for lower maintenance cost is to avoid the dealerships. An independent shop may not even recommend the seal replacement if it is just weeping slightly.

A second opinion is needed in this case.

I do not nor do I plan to own a Subaru. 5 in the greater family and every one has been trouble. I am the family petrolhead and I have been approached three times in the last 5 years asking if blown head gaskets, bad transmissions, CV joints and such were common. Only one family member has kept one because his job requires that he go onto sandy farms in the US desert. All others have gone to Honda or Toyota. Despite the fact I like driving them, I won't have one.
