Powertrain performance

It has VERY strong acceleration in 2nd thru 4th gears (20-70mph). First gear runs out of rpm quickly. I can easily outrun many "sporty" cars and then pull off-road and not get stuck in mud or snow.

Safety & braking

Strong fade-free disk brakes with all around 5 star crash ratings.

Reliability & durability

Cargo capacity

Little car with much useable cargo space and a very high (2400#) tow rating for a small car.

Past personal experience

I gave my 2006 base-engine Forester to my daughter for a college graduation present and she loves it.

Quietness

Road noise and engine noise is intrusive on long drives.

Front seat room

Front driver leg room is a little cramped from side to side.

Audio & nav systems

With the optional sub-woofer, the sound tends to distort or cause interior panels to buzz on loud (but NOT drive the neighborhood nuts loud) music. I listen to classical and movie soundtracks.
