Safety & braking
The base Grand Vitara comes with front and side airbags, antilock brakes and stability control.
Controls and instruments
Easily manages in all types of terran without need for exessive steering or shifting of gears.
Feature availability
The package even on a base unit is more than adequate for the average driver. This includes cruse control, a decent music system, OK climate control and usaeable interior lighting.
Exterior styling
When the SUV was first seen by co-workers and friends they complemented the styling and functionality of the exterior design. For my part it is clean and uncluttered and looks good as a bonus!
Materials & workmanship
The vehicle just seems solid to me. No creaks and growns or rattles and thumps. The wax from the dealership still looks very good when the vehicle is freshly washered even after a full year and more of driving it. The pearl black paint is very nice.
Powertrain performance
The small six seems to be a bit under powered for the size of the vehicle. There are more shifts and down shifts than one would like to have on a vehicle. It is noteworthy that Suzuki upgraded to a 3.3 V6 the following year.
Quietness
The engine works very hard and when you want to move along it gets really loud. This is distracting and disquieting as it sounds like it will never make it to 50,000 miles. Where actually it is a sure thing that it will.
