TrueDelta Reviews the Seat Room and Comfort of the 2021 Toyota Highlander
2021 Toyota Highlander Seat Room and Comfort: Cons

With each redesign (for 2008, 2014, and 2020) Toyota has enlarged the Highlander, yet the crossover's third-row seat remains uncomforably low and tight. For adults to be even passably comfortable in the way-back the second row must be slid forward, rendering legroom there also marginal. Some three-row crossovers have much roomier and more comfortable third-row seats.
But if you want to be able to squeeze in eight people, Highlanders with a second-row bench can do this. Because they have significantly narrower third-row seats, the Ford Explorer and Kia Sorento cannot fit three people back there even in a pinch, so in hybrid form the former has a maximum capacity of seven people and the latter only six. (The Sorento PHEV will be able to seat seven.) This noted, if you want your adult passengers to have plenty of room, the practical capacity of each is four people.

The 3rd row seating is just not for adults at all, and I'm not certain that children would be easy to fit back there as well. I'm not sure what Toyota was thinking, even making the 2020 longer didn't make any difference at all. My one complaint is it is just TOO SMALL!

2013
The Buick Verano's impression of substance and solidity extends to its seats. The front buckets are larger and more thickly padded than those in the typical compact sedan, yet have a firm, properly supportive underlying structure. They look and feel "premium." The Acura ILX's front seats, with more prominent side bolsters, provide better lateral support in hard turns, but don't feel as solid or as luxurious.

While the Buick Verano's exterior is large for a compact sedan, its rear seat is among the tightest. The ILX is a bit tighter still. In it I can just fit behind my 5-9 self. But anyone who requires an adult-friendly rear seat will likely reject both cars (along with the new Cadillac ATS).
The Verano's 14.5 cubic foot trunk--two cubes over the ILX's--is more competitive, and more in line with Buick's traditional strengths.

I am 6'1", broad shouldered, overweight, and considered quite a big guy, but I have no trouble fitting into the car. Even if you are a couple of inches higher than me, you should be okay. Be advised I chose a car without a sunroof. The sunroof may cut into that headroom.

The seat cushioning is about the best in the business. The foam density Buick used is unlike any I have experienced.

No rear seat venting except the floor makes it a bit stuffy for the rear seat passengers. The rear seating area is tight to get into but once seated provide enough space.

My right knee(with shorts on) hits the hard plastic to discomfort. I thought about putting some padding there. Same with the lack of padding inside the map pocket on the door to keep contents from rattleing.
