Why Not the 2010 Toyota Prius?

Controls and instruments

The dash layout and the middle arm really annoyed me. The trip computer was dead center of the dash, not the place I want my eyes while driving down the road.

Handling

The Prius was initially the hybrid that I wanted to buy. When I drove the Prius, the get-up-and-go was entirely missing, like it had a Star Trek Enterprise Inertia dampening system on. There was zero feel of the road, like driving a microwave oven.

Feature availability

Bare minimum at the 21k price point. I'm surprised they didn't charge extra for the seat belts.

Audio & nav systems

Sad, sad, sad excuse for a stock radio. I think I saw the saleperson flinch when I turned it on.

Price or payments

Getting any hybrid new in 2010 for 21k was not a bad deal, but Toyota broke out the Prius into several different models, and for 21k you get a pat on the back and the little paper in the floorboard.
