Introduction

The 2019 VW GTI Rabbit edition is so special. It was such a huge upgrade from the S model and made even better with the Clark Plaid cloth seats. Every sporty car should have cloth seats.

2019 Volkswagen Golf / GTI Love Letter

The 2019 VW GTI Rabbit edition was such an upgrade from the S edition of that year. It has all the sporty stuff you would get on the SE version like the insanely good limited slip diff, the larger brakes (with red calipers!), and the larger wheels with sporty rubber. And then to make it extra special you got the Clark Plaid cloth seats, which I think every sporty car should have since they are a) cooler in the summer, b) warmer in the winter, c) hold you during spirited driving better and d) clean up really quite nicely.

This car is the perfect mix of sportiness, with 228 horsepower and honestly there are few places where you can use this kind of power nowadays. It cruises effortlessly over 90 mph, gets on the highway at half throttle and still makes it over 80 mph by the end of the on ramp. The handling is excellent though doesn't come close to the fun of a dedicated sports car like a Miata, but the hatch holds a hell of a lot more stuff than a Miata does! (speaking from experience)

I have added a hitch rack that holds a lightweight trials motorcycle (about 147 pounds) and this Rabbit hauls it to and from events without any complaints at all. It will now tow 1500 pounds if I want it to, though usually it is just a few hundred pounds in a motorcycle 3 rail trailer or a landscape trailer.

If you find one of these cars in either Urano Grey or Cornflower Blue be sure to act fast as these were the special colors for 2019 and look awesome. We had a chance to buy a Cornflower Blue but my wife said it looked too much like a boy racer and wasn't a good look for me. I still like them but I agree with her that the UG looks classier.
