What Our Members Are Saying about the Real Gas Mileage of the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta SportWagen

2010 Volkswagen Jetta SportWagen Real Gas Mileage: Pros
YearBody/PowertrainComment
2011 4dr Wagon 170-horsepower 2.5L I5
6-speed shiftable automatic FWD
I was hoping for a bit better than the 8+ litres/100 km we are getting with this Sportwagen. I was hoping it would be closer to the 6 l/100 km advertised on the window sticker. see full Volkswagen Jetta SportWagen review
2011 4dr Wagon turbocharged 140hp 2.0L I4 Diesel
6-speed automated manual FWD
Our Sportwagen, automatic, has 17,000 mostly country/suburban miles. We routinely get 43 mpg and the mileage seems to have improved a bit, maybe 2-3 mpg since new. Top mileage is about 47 mph on the interstate, low is about 37 in combined in-town/suburban winter driving. For a car that is fun to drive and responsive at the stop light, this seems very good to me. Right now, diesel is at a premium compared to gas, but we still are saving money on fuel. Mileage on other brands of small wagons was much lower for the same utility. A friend with a new, 2013 Subaru wagon got 30 mpg on a long trip and was happy, but nothing like the TDI delivers. see full Volkswagen Jetta SportWagen review
2011 4dr Wagon turbocharged 140hp 2.0L I4 Diesel
6-speed automated manual FWD
No need to sacrifice mpg to get that power. Have gotten 50 mpg on highway trips of 40 miles. Averaging 39 mpg at fill-ups. Getting 300 miles to half a tank of gas. see full Volkswagen Jetta SportWagen review
2009 4dr Wagon turbocharged 140hp 2.0L I4 Diesel
6-speed automated manual FWD
With 32k Miles on the odo, the mileage keeps improving. I think the engine will be fully broken in at about 50k see full Volkswagen Jetta SportWagen review

2009 4dr Wagon turbocharged 140hp 2.0L I4 Diesel
6-speed automated manual FWD
The TDI is a great contender in the fuel economy range. I do alot of driving and it would have presented great savings to me if I was able to located one when I needed to purchase a car. see full Volkswagen Jetta SportWagen review
2009 4dr Wagon turbocharged 140hp 2.0L I4 Diesel
6-speed manual FWD
I was getting around 50 mpg on steady state freeway driving. But the performance was far from economy car- Way better! Can imagine what is possible when the car gets broke in. Excellent all around. see full Volkswagen Jetta SportWagen review

The Sportwagen's fuel economy is exactly what you'd expect from a fairly substantial compact wagon and a 2.5 litre gas engine, not the magically impossible gas mileage posted on the window sticker at the dealership! see full Volkswagen Jetta SportWagen review
