Why the 2007 Volvo S80?

  Compared to the LS
Powertrain performance

The engine start up sound for the V8 is straight from the '60 muscle car era. Always a smile on my face. Plenty of power. OK gas milage for a heavy V8. Transmission shifts are a little wonky, most all times smooth, but ocasionally hard in the 1-2 shift. Very comfortable seats. All wheel drive is stable in rain and snow. Don't believe in Volvo's advice in the "service for life" recommendations not to change the drivetrain fluids. Change the fluids for best life expectancy.

Quietness

Nice quiet Volvo until you step on the right (loud) pedal. Then the V8 wakes up and the car GOES. Too bad Volvo no longer offers the V8 engine.

Powertrain performance

Find a (used) V8 if you can. No more V8 from Volvo.

Why Not the 2007 Volvo S80?

  Compared to the LS
Powertrain performance

Transmission advice from Volvo is "sealed for life" Don't believe it. Change all the drivetrain fluids. Fluids are much less expensive than replacing hardware. My transmission has a very rare hard shift between 1->2 gears. Operating normally per Volvo.
