Safety in a "small overlap front" crash.

For me, safety is my number one consideration. I know that Volvo didn't introduce the "Small overlap front" category for testing until 2013, but I wonder if the prior years for the XC60 were just as safe anyway, given Volvo's attention to safety issues. Did the 2009 - 2012 XC60 models hold up just fine in these small overlap frontal crashes, on either the drivers or passengers sides? Thank you for whatever help you can give me.

"Both cars are fresh redesigns, but the 2013 Civic and XC60 were specifically changed in order to do well in the new test; they both earned IIHS' top mark..."
