EML, brake and stability control lights came on, along with check engine. mechanics replaced spark plugs, did tune up and replace transfer case fluid. still had same problem on cold startup. mechanics recalibrated whole electronics system, including stability control, no further issues--but it hasn't been below freezing, so we'll see if that actually worked. engine sounds good, driving feels very smooth.
