Why the 2003 BMW Z4?

Powertrain performance

Smooooooth, effortless, sounds sooooo good. Engine will gather revs until it reaches the rev limiter. The gearbox is solid, if a bit heavy and very deliberate between gears.

Why Not the 2003 BMW Z4?

Reliability & durability

Parts(e.g., fuel pump) that would nearly outlast any domestic or foreign car make failed after only 25,000 miles. Dealer attempted to charge me nearly $2000 to replace same...said "No thanks," and took to independent garage who charged 1/3 to repair.

Ride smoothness

I bought the car with the Performance Package which includes lowered ride height, run flat tires, stiffer springs/shocks, and the Sport button. The ride is definitely harsh; you feel every little bump and road imperfection. Worst quality of the car.

Cargo capacity

Interior space is severely limited. The trunk can hold a surprisingly large amount of stuff, if packed correctly. However, the trunk still is limited in size and ability to carry much...but this is not a big factor for me.

Insurance cost

Despite being retired with no accidents or tickets in over 30 years, insurance rates are sky high. Depreciation is brutal, much worse than one would expect with a "quality" make.
