Why the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette?

Materials & workmanship

The new C7 Corvette Stingray is a phenomenal sports car on every level. I picked mine up at the Factory with a Museum delivery and now have 2500+ trouble free miles on her in just under 3 weeks. The design is stunning- new yet embodying its heritage. Fit and finish are amazing. They have completely redone the interior and the quality is a close match to my Cadillac XTS Platinum. It is extremely comfortable- the drive back from the Museum to my house was 1880 miles in 3 days and at the end of each day I felt great. When you are cruising on the highway it is as quite as any well-built sedan- but step on the throttle and hear the performance exhaust roar. It delights in pops and burgles as you lift off the gas on a downshift. There is so much available power at any speed with its 460 hp with 465 ft pounds of torque. The 6 speed automatic is very refined with proper paddle shifters. It has a new lightweight torque converter and great shifting software. It will easily push you back in your seat at every shift if you like, yet it is extremely drivable and comfortable as a daily driver. Standard is a 7 speed stick with rev matching. GM has put a ton of expensive materials and changes in the C7 including the new all aluminum frame, extensive use of carbon fiber (the hood, roof panel, etc), new body composites and functional vents/scoops everywhere. There currently are basically two versions of the C7, a base and a Z51. The engines are the same, but the Z51 has a dry sump oil system. Additionally, the Z51 has 1" larger wheels and tires than the base, and slightly larger front brakes and a full width tail wing. You can also add magnetic suspension to the Z51 package (which is definitely recommended). The interior has 3 levels as options, the 1LT, 2LT and 3LT. The 2 and 3 add the upgraded Bose system, universal garage door opener, heated and cooled seats with more seat controls, and more leather colors and options. The 2 is similar to the 3LT level on the C6. The color of your leather in the 2 continues to the doors and center consul with contrast stitching tying it all together on the dash and steering wheel. The 3 carries the color to the instrument panel. There are carbon fiber additional options on the models as well as wheel options. The roof panel, available in one of three options: body colored carbon fiber, exposed carbon fiber and transparent, is easy to remove (about 14 pounds) and stow in the trunk of the Coupe. The trunk is large and can for example, easily carry two full golf bags or multiple roller bags, etc. When you have the roof panel stowed in the trunk it actually 'hinges' so you can get to stuff stored under it like a golf bag side to side at the back of the trunk. The Bose system (if you want to listen to it instead of the V8 symphony) sounds great with the massive sub-woofer across the rear of the trunk. The nav system works very well. The HUD, heads up display, is great- it and the dash are much brighter (and in color) than in prior 'Vettes. Both the HUD and dash are configurable. The car (both versions) gets amazing gas mileage. I got 27.5 mpg on my 1880 mile drive back from the Museum, and pretty consistently get better than 30 mpg cruising at highway speeds. The engine has direct fuel injection that goes a long way in contributing to this gas mileage as well as the fact that it drops to a V4 seamlessly when the car is not calling for power but just cruising. You have 5 drive mode settings including weather, eco, tour, sport and track. Each controls a number of systems including the throttle response, steering, suspension etc. You can switch mode at any time. You immediately notice the resultant change in the throttle response and steering. The special US made Michelin run flats are not like run flats of the past. They have astounding adhesion, are very comfortable and quiet and a tread life of 300! As you can tell I am extremely pleased with the new Corvette Stingray.
