Reviewed: 2012 Dodge Challenger

2dr Coupe 470-horsepower 6.4L V8 6-speed manual RWD

Why the 2012 Dodge Challenger?

Powertrain performance

Really good power, underrated at 470hp. RWHP numbers vary between 400 and 430 which is around 500 overall hp. With traction control off the tires will try to break loose up to 3rd gear. A blast to drive everyday. No replacement for Displacement!!!!

Fuel economy

Better than I thought I would get out of a Huge V8. It is my Daily Driver so I do fether the pedal sometimes. If hypermiling I can get 27 to 31 highway and a combination of 23mpg total......if I can get through a tank without opening it up.

Exterior styling

The best bar none. This car screams American Muscle, I loved seeing the old ones in movies like Vanishing Point and Death Proof. It lives up to the name.

Ride smoothness

This car was worth it to me in part by the Adjustable suspension. This is the first year it has been offered on a Challenger and that was a huge reason why I went with a 12 instead of a tunable 2010. The extra 50HP and TQ are a bonus

Handling

Handles like a small car for being 4400 lbs. The suspension adds to that. Very little body roll. I have read reviews from Motor Trend that state it does not handle as well as an M3, All I know is it take a sharp corner at 70MPH without skipping a beat.

Why Not the 2012 Dodge Challenger?

Materials & workmanship

It is a dodge. Many have complained of factory issues on multiple forums.. I have had none of these issues. No broken plastic or mystery dents, however many have stated they have these issues.

Interior styling

It could be better, I like the look but the Charger, 300, Dart, Chorokee, and many others have the updated system that is much more attractive design

Fuel economy

I think they could have made the 4 cylender deactivation for the Manuel as well and improve gas milage.

Dealer practices

I had a mixed experience at the dealer, great sales team, 0 down for a 50k dollar car is pretty good with a lot of money off. I did have a hard time getting my second key, and it came unprogrammed so that is an issue as well as them not filling up thetank
