Reviewed: 2005 Dodge Magnum

4dr Wagon 250-horsepower 3.5L V6 5-speed shiftable automatic AWD

Why the 2005 Dodge Magnum?

Powertrain performance

The V6 accelerates like a V8: plenty of power around town or on the highway. Autostick is useful when descending hills to go down to 4th or 3rd gear.

Front seat support & comfort

Roomy compartment and excellent, firm front seats are comfortable even for an entire day of driving.

Reliability & durability

At 65,000 miles I have only had to do usual maintenance and change tires once, have front rotors turned to eliminate a slight shimmy (at about 40,000 miles). One minor warranty repair (two o-rings sealing an electric connection to transmission) when new.

Safety & braking

ABS/Stability Control/All Wheel Drive. This is a very stable, competent highway tourer. Excellent in slippery conditions.

Pros: R/T is very powerful and the long wheel base makes for a very comfortable ride. Steering is tight and competent. The Boston Acoustic stereo system is very good. The bun warmer seats are comfortable. The car has electrically adjustable seats/petals and since I am 6'2", this is one of the few cars that has given me ample leg room. The car is easy to maintain as long as long as you change the oil every 3000 miles. According to dealer, this car was designed by Daimler/Chrysler/Benz. He claims the under carriage, electrical system, transmission, suspension; exhaust system, twin fuel tanks, oversized braking system, interior heating/cooling system and cruise controls come from Daimler/Benz.Chrysler did the interior, outside body components and engine. Cons: The heating and cooling controls can be very confusing; the cruise control is located where theturn signals should be located. The interior has too much plastic. The HEMI engine uses 16 spark plugs. The battery is located in the rear body compartment. The owner's manual specifies mid or high grade fuel. Overall if they had offered an updated 2017 Magnum R/T or later version of this car, I would purchase another one.
