Introduction

I had a 2000 Avalon, wanted another. Had been a Toyota buyer since 1975. $8000 price differential on comparably equipped cars sealed the deal. I have not been unhappy with my choice.

Why the 2007 Hyundai Azera?

Exterior styling

While the pros call the styling bland, I actually like it. I like the "hips." Folding exterior mirrors are great for garage use. Wonder why not available universally.

Interior styling

It's okay but still no car manufacturer has found a good storage place for my purse! Love, love the rear sunshade.

Driving position & visibility

I love the ability to sit up high in the driver's seat. I always use the highest position available. Good visibility except for backing up. Like the wider side illumination headlights provide.

Reliability & durability

84,000 miles and only one service issue not under warranty--a $40 repair. Only two warranty repairs in that time.

Feature availability

For the money, the best. Dual power front seats, rear sunshade, ABS, traction control, heated seats, homelink, sat radio, big trunk, very roomy back seat. 60/100,000 mile warranty, a big incentive. All this for $24,000 (LTD). Wish the new ones didn't cost so much.

Why Not the 2007 Hyundai Azera?

Tires

Lousy OEM tires. Trouble keeping tires from cupping. But got 45,000 miles on last set so can live with that.

Materials & workmanship

Other than tires, my least favorite thing is that water drips into the trunk when opened on a rainy day. Wish they could figure this out. My Camry did the same but not my beloved Avalon.

Dealer practices

It's a Chevy dealership. Takes 2 hours for an oil change. I've learned to accept it.

Conclusion

Took a chance Hyundai was on the upswing and glad I did.
