Introduction

We looked at a number of other cars, and railed against the Jetta when you had to go up 2 trim grades to get electric mirrors. When we saw the cargo space in the Touring, we looked for the best one we could find - out of production in Canada in 2013. We got lucky - 2012 with 10K kms for 1/3 off.

Why the 2012 Hyundai Elantra Touring?

Feature availability

Unbelievable list of standard features on the GLS model makes it very attractive.

Warranty, maintenance cost

Whats not to like about the warranty? Its got to be the best in the auto industry for an economy car.

Materials & workmanship

I have seen worse finishing on german cars. It really looks well done, like they care about what they ship.

Fuel economy

While its not a hybrid, when you move from a gas-guzzling minivan to the Touring, it feels like you are no longer owned by the oil companies.

Handling

Feels like a sports car - great steering and suspension.

Why Not the 2012 Hyundai Elantra Touring?

Feature availability

The owners manual is a joke. The index is next to useless, does not include the installed radio, does not explain the ESC system, and doesn't mention the bluetooth system in the car. They need to re-write it if they produce the Touring again.
