2004 Jaguar XJ Pros and Cons at TrueDelta: The best car we have ever owned: my 2004 Jaguar XJ8 by dreadnought52

Between us my wife and I have owned 76 automobiles. The range spans model years 1953 to 2013. Four of those cars have been Jaguar XJs and without fear of contradiction I can say that Jag ownership has been a satisfying experience. All four were purchased used. My first XJ was a 1986 followed by a 1990, then a 1997 to the present car our 2004. We have owned cars from Chrysler, Lexus, Infiniti, Cadillac, BMW, Volvo and many other manufacturers but there is just something different about Jaguars that we love.
We have always found Jaguar XJs to be handsomely styled. This particular car I believe to be the best looking XJ since the Series III cars of the 70s and 80s. The shapes of the body components are in harmony without a single clashing note.
This car is comfortable, stylish, luxurious and fun to drive. The handling is excellent with great responsiveness to the throttle at both low and high speed. The horsepower rating is deceptive to those used to the idea that big numbers over 300 are the only way to go. I have over 92,000 miles on the car after almost 7 years of ownership. I bought it at five years old and the body and interior show little to no wear or deterioration. The only noticable area of wear on the car is the leather wrapped steering wheel and that was caused by rings worn by both my wife and I. It is amazing how well this car looks and drives 12 years after leaving the factory.
