Past personal experience

I gave my 1991 Cherokee to my grandsons when I got the 2003. I loved the vehicle, and they do too. Now it is 17 years old and still going strong, in spite of some lack of preventive maintenance.

Powertrain performance

I can get me through almost any driving situation. We have some severe weather in SD, and in winter it takes some time to get all the roads cleared. No problem for the Jeep. The automatic overdrive can be turned off with a button on the shift lever.

Feature availability

The select track system allow me to leave it in 4 wheel drive all winter with out having to go back to 2 wheel drive for dry pavement. We have lots of snow patches interspersed with dry pavement.

Brand reputation & image

Jeep brand is well recognized for durability and ability to handle all kinds of terrain.

Ride smoothness

Irregular roads cause a side to side motion of the upper part of the vehicle. The solid axles in recent models have been replaced and solved that problem.

Quietness

The axle ratio is for pulling etc. The rpms would not need to be that high for street driving. The automatic overdrive helps. It would help if you could have a lower engine speed for city driving when you do not need all the power.
