Reviewed: 2012 Kia Sorento

4dr SUV 276-horsepower 3.5L V6 6-speed shiftable automatic AWD

Why the 2012 Kia Sorento?

Powertrain performance

Quick acceleration (3.5L V-6), relaxed high-speed highway cruising; 6-speed, manually-shiftable automatic is unobtrusive and always in the right gear; automatic AWD can be locked in 4WD for maximum grip.

Fuel economy

Average fuel economy at 22.5 MPG is lower than expected but still not bad.

Interior styling

Beautiful, without being overwrought. Looks pricier than it is. Comfortable, spacious interior. Versatile: carries a _lot_ of stuff with the back seats folded down.

Handling

Surprisingly good handling. Twisty mountain roads are actually fun in this vehicle, which I didn't expect.

Reliability & durability

No issues so far at 30,000 miles.

Why Not the 2012 Kia Sorento?

Fuel economy

I expected the fuel economy to be somewhat better than 22.5 MPG.

Ride smoothness

The ride may be a little firm for some people's tastes (it's fine for me, though).

Audio & nav systems

The audio system bundled with nav is pretty good, but by no means great. The nav, on the other hand, has a tendency to lead you on a wild goose chase, at times taking you the long way around to something nearby, regardless of settings.
