Why the 2012 Mazda Mazda3?

Fuel economy

While reviews are mixed, the Skyactiv engine delivers as promised for me. With over 70% city/suburb driving, I've yet to average under 30mpg (odo/pump). Set the cruise control at 65-70 and > 40mpg is easy on a flat highway.

Handling

I wanted to move to a more economical car from my RX-8. The Mazda3 was the only econo car I test drove where I felt the handling was good enough for me to not miss the 8 too much. I applaud Mazda for continuing to incorporate sportiness across the line.

Discounts & incentives

Dealer stock is high on the 2012s right now and Mazda has some good corporate promotions going on. Find a dealer who is close to making their quarterly numbers and you can get a heck of a deal. I came in at well under invoice.

Why Not the 2012 Mazda Mazda3?

Quietness

This is not a luxury car, nor is trying to be. However, the road noise is a bit more than other cars in the class and due to design of the engine around efficiency, it can be loud at times. Music at a moderate volume is enough to drown out most noise.

Exterior styling

I'm hesitant to put this as a negative, but the 3's styling is controversial. I like the styling updates for 2012. Still not the prettiest car out there, but easy enough on the eyes for me.
