2006 Mazda Mazda6 Pros and Cons at TrueDelta: Owner Pros and Cons by matthew.soens

Safety & braking
Very good brakes when running hard - especially for a 3600lb+ 4-door sedan!
Driving position & visibility
Shifter/steering wheel in the perfect position.
Handling
Handles very well, even in stock form
Price or payments
I bought as a 2006 leftover when the 2007 MY was already available.
Insurance cost
Insurance was very cheap compared to similar 4-door turbo 4-cylinder performance cars.
Powertrain performance
Very heavy, so the 274hp is strained a bit too much to really look good.
Reliability & durability
Far too many horror stories about the engine throwing a rod, with or without modifications. Also, many turbos are known to smoke, but Mazda does nothing about the situation.
Dealer practices
Mazda knows there is an issue with the motor - some inherent design flaw - and they have chosen to ignore it.
Fuel economy
Not very good unless you are on the highway only cruising. On the highway it can get 28+ mpg. However, in mixed driving you will be lucky to get 20 mpg.
Materials & workmanship
The interior just feels too cheap - especially for a car with MSRP of over $30000.
