Reviewed: 2008 Mitsubishi Outlander

4dr SUV 220-horsepower 3.0L V6 6-speed shiftable automatic 4WD

Why the 2008 Mitsubishi Outlander?

Powertrain performance

The 220 hp V-6 combined with 6 speed auto transmission was extremely smooth and powerful. The choice of front wheel, all wheel or 4 wheel drive was the icing on the cake.

Handling

The sight of the tower strut bar was reassuring when I lifted the hood and the performance climbing a steep, twisty hill was much better than the Santa Fe. The tight turning radius also helps.

Fuel economy

22.45 mpg US on the first measured tank included much small town, considerable city, and moderate highway driving, plus a long climb up to a lake 2250 feet above us.

Feature availability

The trip meter, the choice of front wheel, all wheel or 4 wheel drive, the drop tailgate, the mp3 player, great sound, lots of storage nooks and crannies.

Reliability & durability

100,000 mile drive train warranty, 60,000 mile on the rest, 5 year road assist, 7500 miles (12000 km) or 6 months between service intervals.
