Introduction

This is my 2nd New Altima (first was in 2006) which I kept and loved for 6 years 132K miles before I sold it.. Which is why I bought the 2013 model sight unseen. I also read all the "Professional" reviews which were all BS!! DO NOT BUY THIS CAR until Nissan fixes these issues... Profit over Safety is not good business practices!

Why the 2013 Nissan Altima?

Why Not the 2013 Nissan Altima?

Handling

This car is DANGEROUS on the highway!!!!!! It drifts all over the road and you are constantly taking corrective measures to keep it in your lane!!!! If you are passing, being passed or there is the slightest breeze you WILL end up in another lane!!! Someone is going to end up being killed in this car...

Quietness

Not quiet at all, loud tranny noise, loud metallic noise at front end, you can hear as you pass gaurdrails or overpasses when driving down the highway. This car has issues with the front end as well, drivers side suspension sounds like a 10 year old car when going over speed bumps, man hole covers or any other slight imperfection in the road!

Fuel economy

I do most of my driving on the highway as well as long road trip in the 1st month of owning and I have never gotten mileage better that 33 mpg - my average is 26 mpg

Dealer practices

Tynan's Nissan in Aurora, CO & Boulder, CO need to be sanctioned for selling this car with known recalls !!! When I picked it up from the dealer the Airbag light was on and the sales person who just picked it up from the Boulder location told me to just bring it in to be looked at... It was a dangerous recall issue!!!! As well as the spare tire recall...

Dealer practices

The steering issue is being identified all over the country but when I took my car into Tynan's Nissan in Aurora, CO they acted like they had never heard of this issue before and told me the car drives just like all other 2013 Altima's!!! So that tells me they are not honest or concerned for their clients (this is the 2nd new Altima I have purchased from this dealer) I will NOT buy from them again....

Conclusion

DANGEROUS CAR!!!

The steering is very sensitive, but this is what you'd expect from a more sport tuned suspension. I notice that at higher speeds, I do have to pay more attention, but that's a small price to pay, in my opinion, for excellent handling.

I own a 2013 Altima S and the handling is hardly excellent or sport-tuned. It's vague and rubbery with extremely poor tracking at highway speeds, requiring nearly constant steering correction. In even a moderate wind or being passed by a truck, the car is buffeted like a tiny subcompact.

Hmmm. You must have a very different car, or something. I compare the Altima's handling to that of other cars I've owned, including a Cadillac CTS (bought new in 2004) and two Passat's.

No, it's not a Porsche or even a Mini, but it handles very well, especially on sharp turns and there is negligible body roll when this is done. I'm very satisfied, but I agree, it is very senstive to wind gusts due, I think, to the overall stiffness of the suspension.
