Reviewed: 2008 Nissan Xterra

4dr SUV 261-horsepower 4.0L V6 6-speed manual 4WD, part-time w/low range

Why the 2008 Nissan Xterra?

Powertrain performance

This vehicle consistently performs well. The engine is very strong. When you step on the gas, it goes and goes fast for an SUV of it's size. In terms of towing, I have mine with a class IV hitch and can easily pull a trailer fully loaded up steep hill

Reliability & durability

I've had my X for almost two years now and have had absolutely no problems. I get my scheduled maintenance done at the dealer and change my oil myself ever 3,500 miles. This has been a very reliable vehicle

Controls and instruments

Controls are laid out very funtionally. Some people knock this SUV because it lacks some of the features of other SUV's. Consider this however, this vehicle is designed by be functional and effective, not a luxury car.

Ride smoothness

Some people will knock the ride on this SUV and compare it to other smaller SUV's. This is not fair, as this is truly a "truck" and built on a truck frame so it will not have the smooth ride or a crossover or an SUV on a car frame.

Safety & braking

Safety wise, this truck is excellent. A friend of mine has an X as well and got into a horrible accident with a tractor trailor. While the X took serious damage, my buddy and his two young children were completely unharmed. Gotta love the strong frame.

Why Not the 2008 Nissan Xterra?

Fuel economy

Fuel economy is not the best, I average around 15-16 in the city and 18-20 on the highway.
